* NE = Not Estimated. Energy and CO2 intensity were not estimated because the travel unit is provided in “tons” since ton-miles were not able to be calculated for water freight; because tons are actually a measurement of weight and not of travel, intensities were not calculated.

** NA = Not Applicable. Travel cannot be quantified across all modes since the units are mode specific (e.g., VMT, ton-miles) and therefore not comparable. Similarly, travel could not be quantified for the total rail travel since the travel units are different for transit and freight rail. Since travel units are not quantified, energy and CO2 intensities across the difference modes cannot be calculated either.
